Default A crazy situation - What\'s the decision?

OK.

Saw this crazy situation where the floor had to make a decision, a slightly tricky one, compounded by dealer error and drunk players...

The cards are dealt. Action commences. Four or five in the pot, no raise. Burn, turn, the flop is dealt. There's a bet and two calls, it's up to the button next. All of a sudden the button, drunk, speaks up and says he was only dealt one card (he's been calling preflop all night without looking). FLOOR!

Considerations...

1. Everyone's real drunk, but real happy, and the game's been moving along quickly and happily despite all the alcohol.

2. The dealer's a good dealer, but obviously didn't deal the last card before the flop. However if the players weren't so drunk it would have been a very easy mistake to correct (had the button pointed it out before the flop).

3. There has been "significant action."

4. The floor is not equipped with a cattle prod, can of whoop-ass, or any other such equipment.

5. None of the players, not even the button, are making a big deal out of the situation, they just want to keep playing!

So what's the decision?

If the floor can get away with it, have the dealer give the drunk another card and play continues.

Based on standard rules, the drunk's hand should be declared dead and play moves on.

I assume #4 was added for the flamers' benefit?

Well #4 was added just for the benefit of everyone who's been in that type of situation and wished they had one.

Your solution is one possible way to handle it, but not the "official right way," (if there is such a thing ), not the way I'd do it, and not the way the floor actually handled it. Don't want to spill the beans just yet tho about what actually happened.

One more thing I should have added is that the floor may make a decision that differs from the strict interpretation of the rules if that decision is in the best interest of the integrity / fairness of the game.

Well, if the floor is game and it's not illegal, give the button the burn card - since it would have been his. And move on. Hopefully no one gives a crap that the first card on the flop should be the burn, etc. This keeps the game moving and happy.

If that can't be done, rule that the button can continue to play with one card if he wants. Unless anyone objects (hopefully no nits speak up).

Obviously, the "correct" call is that the button's hand is dead. That would be the party pooping decision.

Regards,

T

Let play including the button. He only has one card, but if he manages to beat the other players that have two cards let him have a pot. A very experienced floorman once said to a nit that complained about someone playing too few cards "I'm not even going to make it fair, I'm going to let you play all your cards even though you have more than he does" Also after the hand the floor shoudl put a new set up in the game and run down this one; often when someone only has one card the dealer actually delat them two but the otehr one went under the rail etc.

Let me guess, the floor gave him back his preflop bet. Not a bad idea.

His hand is dead and no money comes out of the pot. All he gets is an apology. If the floor wants to be real nice they can refund his money out of house funds. Anything else is a huge mistake.

i say, let him play his one card.

if he spoke up before the flop he could have received the second card and the dealer error could have been corrected.
