Default ATs Under Fire

5-5 NL at Ocean's Eleven earlier today. ($500 max buy-in) 8 handed. SB in this hand seems fairly decent, but no real solid read, since it's the 2nd orbit of the new game.

The Dude ($565) open-rases to $25 in the CO w/ A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. SB ($480) calls.

Flop: ($51) Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
SB checks, The Dude bets $35, SB calls.

Turn: ($121) T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
SB checks, The Dude bets $140. SB raises all-in for $280 more. The Dude calls.

You are probably behind, but have tons of ways to catch up. The only hand I'm worried about is AK.

Hope you sucked out.

If I am sitting in the SB, I am thinking you missed your flop and I am trying to take this one away from you. I call if I am in your shoes w/ your 12 outs if he does indeed have the straight or your 14 outs if he is holding an overpair or two pair (no tens).

i don't really know much about no limit and i've only played 10 or 15 times, but i was thinking that checking the turn might be a good idea because you don't want to get blown off your draw. of course, you called, so i guess that wasn't worrying enough for you not to bet. please help me out on your reasoning.

Any merit to checking behind the turn?

I don't think you have any reason to, I think you need to build the pot here for when your club hits, otherwise you might be telegraphing that you were on a club draw.

Hi,

He just put in his whole stack as a huge dog, but you think that's okay because he had to "build the pot for when the club hits"!!! Of course there's merit to checking the turn; it is exactly what you should have done. The only value to this bet is to get the guy to lay down a better hand which isn't going to happen nearly as often as this disasterous result. You have a ton of outs - you do not want to be checkraised - check.

He had JJ... I pondered whether betting the turn was a good move or not.
