I remember him winning coinflips and like two hands where he was 4:1 and 3:1. Both of which when he had a big chip lead and could afford to make these calls. Be quiet.

By the time the guy had to invest any amount of real money he had his draw. He probably knew he was behind but had a 1/5 chance of doubling up and all but busting one of the strongest 3 players left, thus improving his chances of winning it all by a great deal.
A bad play still, but that was probably his reasoning.
