Default how bad is this angle shoot?

Last night in the Canterbury 30 game, I twice saw a guy say "big blind" when HU on the river and toss out 3 chips. (He obviously was UTG in the hands in question, and was BB next.) He had not tossed in his cards when he did this. In the first case his opponenet thought it was a call and tabled his hand. The guy had a bit of an accent so it wasn't completely clear what he said. He tried it on me later as well, but I was aware of it so my hand went in the muck. I was very tempted to call the floor and ask that he be required to call, but decided to let it go. How bad is this angle shoot of his?

Seems to me if he still has cards and tosses chips out then that's a call/bet regardless of what he says. You can't post your BB while a hands in progress.

I suprised no one called him out on it. It should be a forced call and is a wierd angle shoot.

As logical as this sounds, it is a very common "joke" to post the bb for the next hand meaning push the pot deal the next hand. Note: that is an observation for playing and dealing and in no way reflects what I would rule if this caused a misunderstanding.

I agree with the prevailing opinion here -- he should be forced to bet or call or whatever -- but I don't understand this description. He said "big blind" pretending to mean "I fold, push the pot and I'll post the big blind for the next hand"? But then, why would you muck your hand -- wouldn't that be playing into his angle by giving him the last live hand?

From the description it sounds you (OP) were the bettor and he was trying to get to see your hand before deciding whether to call, right? But that still doesn't explain the mucking -- betting, then mucking your hand while your HU opponent is attempting an angle shoot, doesn't win any pots to my understanding.

Apologies if I'm just dense.

I would make sure I held my cards until I have the pot. When described on the interent this soudns like a really big angle shot, but I have never seen someoen do this then try to make a claim for the pot. It is something that shouldn't be done becsaue of the potential angle shot, but I have never seen someone do it AS an angle shot.

I think he is saying that he didn't fall for the angle shoot and show his cards. I'm sure he held his cards until the pot was headed his way - then they went into the muck without being shown.

i would table my hand and take down the pot, his "big blind" included.

his options are raise, call, and fold. if he throws in enough chips to call, he is calling. there is no "big blind" option.
