I don\'t understand MTTs
Here are two hands from a Pokerstars satellite, 500FPP, top
nine finishers win an entry to the weekend satellite to WCOOP #15 (worth 5000 FPP). The preflop (and postflop) play completely baffles me. I'd appreciate it if you took a look at this and explain to me what these people might be thinking. And what is the proper line to take. Thanks. __________________________________________________ _____ First hand of tournament: PokerStars Game #2174790649: Tournament #10403283, Hold'em No Limit - Level I (10/20) - 2005/07/24 - 08:00:00 (ET) Table '10403283 8' Seat #1 is the button Seat 1: gambler381 (1500 in chips) Seat 2: Hero (1500 in chips) Seat 4: Shabana (1500 in chips) Seat 5: Final Table2 (1500 in chips) Seat 6: drugHabit (1500 in chips) Seat 7: dominos1 (1500 in chips) Seat 8: firewall82 (1500 in chips) Seat 9: Spectrum359 (1500 in chips) Hero: posts small blind 10 Shabana: posts big blind 20 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to Hero [Kh Ks] Final Table2: folds drugHabit: raises 20 to 40 dominos1: calls 40 firewall82: folds GB2005 is connected Spectrum359: calls 40 gambler381: folds Hero: raises 100 to 140 Shabana: folds drugHabit: calls 100 dominos1: calls 100 Spectrum359: calls 100 *** FLOP *** [5d 8h 6h] Hero: bets 500 drugHabit: calls 500 dominos1: raises 860 to 1360 and is all-in Spectrum359: calls 1360 and is all-in Hero: folds drugHabit: calls 860 and is all-in *** TURN *** [5d 8h 6h] [Qc] *** RIVER *** [5d 8h 6h Qc] [6s] *** SHOW DOWN *** drugHabit: shows [7h 2h] (a pair of Sixes) dominos1: shows [4c 7c] (a straight, Four to Eight) Spectrum359: shows [8s As] (two pair, Eights and Sixes) dominos1 collected 5160 from pot My 500 flop bet was misclick...I meant to bet around 400... but thats not important. What is drig habit thinking? And dominos? And can Spectrum really think that his TPTK is any good after this kind of action? I don't understand the thinking here, and I don't know how to counteract it. __________________________________________________ ______ Hand 2....Final hand (for me) NB. This is NOT a bad beat post. PokerStars Game #2174882894: Tournament #10403283, Hold'em No Limit - Level IV (50/100) - 2005/07/24 - 08:45:47 (ET) Table '10403283 8' Seat #9 is the button Seat 1: gambler381 (820 in chips) Seat 2: Hero (950 in chips) Seat 3: tricktree12 (2990 in chips) Seat 4: bridgemaniac (2010 in chips) Seat 5: LargeLars (1945 in chips) Seat 6: DarkWan (1410 in chips) Seat 7: dominos1 (4735 in chips) Seat 8: firewall82 (2990 in chips) Seat 9: bluffsniffer (1030 in chips) gambler381: posts small blind 50 Hero: posts big blind 100 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to Hero [Ac Kc] tricktree12: calls 100 bridgemaniac: calls 100 LargeLars: calls 100 DarkWan: folds dominos1: folds firewall82: folds bluffsniffer: folds gambler381: calls 50 Hero: raises 850 to 950 and is all-in tricktree12: folds bridgemaniac: raises 1060 to 2010 and is all-in LargeLars: folds gambler381: folds *** FLOP *** [Qs 8d 2c] *** TURN *** [Qs 8d 2c] [7d] *** RIVER *** [Qs 8d 2c 7d] [Tc] *** SHOW DOWN *** Hero: shows [Ac Kc] (high card Ace) bridgemaniac: shows [Qc 9c] (a pair of Queens) bridgemaniac collected 2200 from pot In this hand I have almost 10BB, and there are 4 limpers to me in the BB, so if I have garbage, I'll just check and see a free flop. Why would I go all in unless I have a real hand? I just don't understand bridgemaniacs isolation play in this case. There is just no chance that the BB would be raising allin with a hand that does not beat Q9s. What is going on in these peoples minds? Thanks, Jonathan |
