Default Creativity test

Can you imagine any situation where cold-calling a 3 bet preflop and not caping is your best play? Dream up an ideal situation with your position, the oddball players at the table, deception and/or 'varying your play' in mind.

If the most creative response you can muster is to regurgitate the standard (obvious) response or to link me to the "You are an Idiot" webpage, don't bother.

Lots of times.

You have a predictable tight player raise UTG and a maniac 3-bettor on Button. You have JJ. You know the predictable player will cap only pairs. You know the maniac will bet the flop if you check to him. You are the BB. Tight player will fold AK/AQ on the flop for 2 bets.

Tight UTG player raises, TAG raises, a LAG 3-bets. I would call with something like JJ and maybe QQ and see if UTG or the TAG caps. It probably makes playing postflop easier.

Not sure, but I think the OP meant calling 3 bets cold preflop. That situation in the BB facing 2 cold is more common I find.

Mutliway against real bad (many people going to showdown with very little) players with hands that can hit big like JTs and TT. If they are bad enough, add Axs.

Not capping AA there is a suckers play. I think the info is important with JJ at least with the player type I laid out.

the only sucker in that situation, will be UTG after I come out of nowhere. The reason we cap JJ is to push UTG out, its easy to play it in position we dont really need that info. I would rather get utg to fold AQ.

I don't get this. I think you gain more information by calling with hands like JJ, so you can more easily make a laydown and cost yourself multiple BB's if you look beat. With AA, the only reason I see for calling is to try to get information from KK-QQ, AK and punish them more. But we are not in a situation with AA as often where we have to make a tough thinking fold, and we gain little by knowing someone caps with KK-QQ or AK. I hate not having AA capped here.
