People make plays at big pots, right?
No PT stats, as it was my first 10/20 session.
I had about 4 orbits at the table. FWIW, I had 2 HU battles with Villain1 that I won w/o SD. Villain2 seemed aggressive. Party Poker 10/20 Hold'em (6 max, 6 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is UTG with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Hero raises, MP (Villain1) calls, 1 fold, Button (Villain2) calls, SB calls, 1 fold. Re: People make plays at big pots, right?
not betting the river is ok... if youre planning to checkraise. folding here would be quite stupid.

Re: People make plays at big pots, right?
Sure, you usually bet the river, but it's not to avoid this situation. There are two scenarios:
(1) You're beat. In this case betting certainly hasn't saved you anything. It gives you an option to fold, and having the option is better than not having the option, even if you decide that folding is wrong. (2) You're ahead. Now it looks like you made extra money because you've induced your opponent(s) to make a play at the pot. Yes, you now have an opportunity to make a mistake, but if you make the right play and call, checking here made you more than betting out, or at least the same. You lose the option of 3-betting a raise, but were you going to 3-bet? Saying that betting here put you in a tough spot is advocating making a play that holds your future self hostage from screwing up. I don't really see that as a valid reason. |

I think you're ahead here but I would have led out on the river and called a bet.

Re: People make plays at big pots, right?
well, you're right. you should bet the river because you probably have the best hand and want to get more money in this pot your figure to win.

Re: People make plays at big pots, right?
you felt you had the best hand on 4th street nothing has changed on the river, I bet it. Although it looks like you made more w/ your seemingly fearfull check. (assuming you were not going for a checkraise)

Re: People make plays at big pots, right?
This guy could be raising with 99 because now he puts you on AK. This seems like one of the problems people have when they move up - they get scared to bet hands which are probably best on the river. And it eats your win rate which you had at the lower level.
Go forth and bet your good hands. That is what they are there for. |
