An interesting AJo UTG hand
What do you guys think? The game was very passive (typical 10NL), so I thought I could actually buy the button with that PF raise. This hand is from my second or third session playing multiple tables.
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (7 handed) converter Button ($8.20) SB ($23.60) BB ($20.05) UTG ($2.35) MP1 ($9.95) TAG Hero ($11.55) CO ($14.70) Preflop: TAG Hero is MP2 with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Re: An interesting AJo UTG hand

What was your read on villain that caused you to check the turn?

Did you read him for one of the other aces?

Re: An interesting AJo UTG hand
I wouldn't be so quick to put the villain on a 10 - I bet the pot on the turn. As played, I think a river call is OK because you're either WA or WB.

Re: An interesting AJo UTG hand
I don't understand the check on the turn, unless you follow it with a raise on the river. In this particular instance, I don't think that will work because it defines your hand. You should bet the turn here and hope your opponent has the case ace.

Re: An interesting AJo UTG hand
My thinking exactly. I didn't have a specific read on villian, but I thought that if he called my c-bet then a T was within his hand range.

Re: An interesting AJo UTG hand
What is opponent has AT?
And how does a turn check define my hand? Like someone said earlier, this is a WA/WB situation. I want to keep the pot small and see a showdown as cheaply as possible. That's the point of the turn check. |

Re: An interesting AJo UTG hand
Pot control. If he had a T or AK/AQ, I didn't want to inflate the pot. By checking the turn, I induce a pot sized or smaller bet from him on the river with a variety of holdings. It's easier to call those bets if they are small because the pot hasn't gotten out of control. He'll make that river bet enough times when I am ahead for it to be a profitable call.
