Changing preflop strategy against a specific player
Hi. I have had this situation come up a couple times and I think I'm really Fing it up. I was hoping you all could help me figure out the best plan of attack against this player, and it may be an interesting situation for you to discuss.
Good 20/40 game. The reason it is good is for one player. He is a 45/6/0.4 over thousands of hands and he pays off a lot. He loves to see showdowns. Most times that I play with him, I try to sit on his left. Sometimes I can't get that seat, so I'll sit anywhere else. Here is where the problem occurs. I played shorthanded with him the other day for hours on two tables so now I think he knows my name and hates me. His PFR is only 6%, but it is about 95% if I have raised. This is not over a small sample of 3 hands, but over and over throughout the session. Also, if he isn't in position on me, he will limp-reraise me 80% of the time. His postflop AF of 0.43 is misleading, because it goes way up against you. He 3-bet me on a flop of KJx with 44 and he bet all streets with Q-high. My question is, if you know you're going to get 3-bet, or limp-reraised a huge majority of the time, how do you adjust your preflop strategy? Hopefully you guys can give me a good answer so next time I can stop raising JTs and really F this guy.

limp the mediocres and raise your UTG->MP1 range. If he's raising you 95% of the time, he's doing so with garbage and you should take advantage of this.

The Daver thinks he knows your guy. The Daver also adjusts his strategy based on where The Daver is sitting and how cooperative the rest of the table has been to The Daver's raises.
The Daver will 4-bet a ton and The Daver likes it.

If he has position on you, consider raising hands with showdown value only. Drop hands like QJ, J10, Q10 etc and raise more Ax and Kx. Let him isolate himself. Just check call down all hands with showdown value if he ALWAYS bluffs. Give him the lead and let him keep it unless you have a real monster.
I actually had a guy do this to me once. I was raising a lot of hands to isolate him (60+ vpip) and it started to get to him. He LRR me a couple times with like 94o and always tried to bluff me out of pots. After I caught on he lost quite a bit of money.

can stop raising JTs
You need showdown value. Play aces, big kings, and pairs, so you can showdown against him regardless of the action. After a while of thumping him this way, he will get trained, and start folding some of the time, and then you can add in some other hands like JTs.

and why does he talk in third person? [/ QUOTE ] sup bro? to the OP: I don't play limits that high, but I noticed a 2/4 guy doing the same to me on the cryptos this past weekend. I started calling down w AJ high a few times and it seemed to pay off and stem the tide a little.
