96s bb turn play

i have 9s6s in the bb in a great live 15-30 game. 4 people limp, sb strangely folds, and i check. 5 of us.

the flop is Jc5s3s. checked to the cutoff who does nothing. the button checks out of turn and the cutoff says hey wait i didnt act and bets. i dont know the cutoff but while he generally sucks he is better than half the players at the table (exceptionally loose passive great game). so now the button calls, and i flat call. the other two fold.

the turn is 2h. i bet.

I like the turn bet once you pick up the gutshot to go with your spades. It also looks like the cutoff might have been putting a move on the pot on the flop, so go ahead and put the pressure on him. Good play.

Most likely would play this the same way. For sure you are going to call, so why not bet and represent. Who knows, they just may fold and if not you are sure to get the hand paid off if you make it.

If it looks like the cutoff might be making a move, wouldn't check-raising and leading the turn put more pressure on him?

Looks like once the button checked out of turn the CO decided to bet at the pot knowing the button was gonna fold and noone else showed interest in the hand.

Your play sure does smell like a seriously whiffed checkraise. Anyway, its not like you dont have outs or anything. gutshot and spade draw. NIce bet. I like it alot.

Does anybody else find that it takes twice as long to read
through a thread since Clarkmeister got a new avatar? I am
not talking about the girl in it - I'm way past that. Now
I am trying to figure out what is in the background. Behind
her, it looks as if there are the two bars that you find on
the side of a pool in the deep end, or the arms of one of
those pool chairs (yes, I know that they are called chez
lounges, but I did not want to attempt to spell that. Well,
congratulations, you got me to try). I cannot figure out
what is in front of her, though. It looks like a bookshelf,
but why in God's name would there be a bookshelf in front of
a pool? The scenario I have created is that she is at some
elite book signing that also has a pool, probably not for
swimming, but more for atmosphere. Why does she stick her
arms out to the side as she stands up? And what are all
those lights flashing on her right side? They look like
flash photography. That would certainly make sense if she
were at some celebrity book signing, which of course would
also explain the pool. Sort of.

As for the hand, I would have bet the flop, especially in a
loose passive game. It will often scare someone into
checking a medium sized pocket pair on the turn, buying you
a free card. Or better yet, it may even get somebody to
fold one on the flop. I also would have bet a weak jack in
the same situation, and possibly checked it on the turn,
depending on how things went, so betting the flop here is
also consistent with that. It would also be nice to get
something like T9 to fold the flop as well.

But your post is about the turn play. The way things went,
I like your turn bet if the cutoff seat is not someone who
will get so stubborn about his flop bet not winning him the
pot when it was clear that nobody else had much of anything,
that he will call you down with ace high. There are many
players who have this mentality. They get so frustrated
that their play on a previous round did not work that they
call you down (or at least call the turn) even though they
are fairly certain that they do not have the best hand. It
is sort of an ego thing. In other words, if the cutoff can
fold the turn, then it is a good bet. I know that sounds
obvious, but it is important to ask yourself that before
you make the play.

Well, it appears that the girls are on a stage. You can actually make out glimpses of two male heads at their feet level, in the background. The building facade looks very nice. Its quality, along with the iron grating and lamp posts, make me think European, though it really could be anywhere. There is also a bicycle sign.

The two curved bars are confusing. I agree it looks like swimming pool ladder handles. That would be out of place. There is also a dark object near those bars which look like they might support some device which is not currently attached.

I do not see any kind of bookshelf here. They are outdoors.

They are practicing dance moves (cheerleaders?). Tourists are taking pictures. That's my theory.

We really do need to get to the bottom of this. Better perspective:
