Re: more evidence of the poker boom - scary
[ QUOTE ]
I've been reading my 2 week old boy the Theory of Poker. He just likes hearing my voice but hopefully some of it sinks in. [/ QUOTE ] Haha, that's great! Maybe one day he'll use his winnings to buy you a new house or something. Seriously though, I think teaching kids things like chess, go, and poker are hugely helpful in their brain development. They can suck down learning at an unbelievable pace at that age too, so just a little effort, along with parental approval, goes an incredibly long way. |

Re: more evidence of the poker boom - scary
[ QUOTE ]
I play with my six year old daugther (cough!). The scary thing is she knows how to use a big stack. She pushes me around! Only problem is that I've got to stop her from jumping up and down when she sees a card fall that she likes! Sick? Well, I don't think so. She's learning how to add/multiply and some deductive reasoning. So, I think there's some good things to learn from playing, and as long as she sees me play responsibly, she'll have a good example. Cheers Magi [/ QUOTE ] Cool move. You're right about both the learning skills and the example part, I think. Parents are the whole world to kids and pretty much everything they know at that age. You have every opporrunity to set the right example instead of the wrong one, and set it early and so it in real deep and sticks. |

Re: more evidence of the poker boom - scary
[ QUOTE ]
It's difficult for me to imagine that the popularity of poker is going to just completely die when there are so many kids who are into it. Then again, Pokemon and Bay Blades aren't exactly big anymore I suppose....and Magic, The Gathering isn't nearly as big anymore either I think. [/ QUOTE ] I agree with you but as kids grow up they stop playing Magic and Pokemon, but they start reading poker books and learning things like there is no such thing as 5 of a kind, or a straight like that. Re: more evidence of the poker boom - scary
All of these young people will grow up, and some will vote. Plus North Carolina just got a lottery. Which means....
Poker will be legal in most of America in 10-15 years. And I, for one, will own a poker barn, via an opaque corporate veil from a Nevada LLC of course. "I vill splash zee pot in my room venever I vant!" Matt |
