PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (5 handed) converter

saw flop|saw showdown

MP (t2040)
Hero (t3810)
SB (t3075)
BB (t1740)
UTG (t395)

Preflop: Hero is Button with 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
UTG raises to t370, 1 fold, Hero raises to t800, 2 folds.

Flop: (t1245) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)

Turn: (t1245) A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)

River: (t1245) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)

Final Pot: t1245

Results in white below:
UTG has 4c 8s (one pair, sevens).
Hero has 6h 5h (one pair, sevens).
Outcome: UTG wins t1245.

(dr jekyl)utg is on his last hand. his range of pushing hands is basically any 2 cards. im risking 370 to win 1245 with 56s. thats 25% of the pot and pretty much all the time ill be higher than 25% favorite to win the hand. im only putting in 370 to jump my stack to 5k.

if i lose... he has 1200 and its still 5 handed and i continue to steal and chip up. i was picking up almost every pot uncontested so if i win(have 5k) or lose(keep stealing) i like the results.

it was fun. ill try to make these more often

You're discounting the possibilty that either the SB or BB wakes up with a hand. You raised to 800 so you had 800 at risk not 395.

And you gave the short stack protection. If I were Doc, I would have loved your play. Remember the SB saying he was going to play until you raised. And then he said he would have won the pot.

So your play prevented the knock out of a player and gave him chips to make him potentially dangerous. Don't like the play at all.

I don't think it's that bad.

I think if you are going to play this hand - I'd play it for a raise.

You are actually limiting the amount the shortstack can win because you are discourging others to enter the pot.

The SB or BB will have to have a very strong, level 1 hand here to come into the pot at this point.

If you get re-raised, you can fold, and still know the player is going to be knocked out.

By raising here you get to see all 5 cards for the cheaper price a majority of the time, helping to knock out the shortstack and build up your own.

It's marginal, but not terrible, and like I said, if you want to play this hand against the short stack I like the raise vs. the call.
