I really think they are beginning to shut down a lot of these places because of the money they confiscate,

Thats just a small part of it. The main problem is that these places have gotten to be too high profile.

Years ago, pretty much only the people who were in the poker world knew about these clubs and they knew who to tell and who not to tell (sure the cops knew, but the clubs weren't a problem so they ignored them) Now everybody knows about these clubs. They are discussed openly. It used to be that some guy lost all his money playing poker and then got called into family court because he didn't pay his child support, wouldn't tell the judge that he lost all his money trying to play poker professionally at the little club on 1st St. he made up a story, because he knew that he shouldn't tell the judge about the poker room. Now these people go in and talk about it openly, because the clubs operate so openly, and the people coming to these clubs don't realize that these clubs are the underworld and you keep your mouth shut about it. Now some accountant goes to a poker room and somebody calls him a [censored] and threatens to beat him up and the accountant is down at the police station filing a harrassment complaint. The Police can't keep ignoring that.

Bingo. Rumor has it that B's game here near DC was shut down because some lame ass was stealing from the safe at work to go play. He got caught, of course, blabbed the whole thing and within a couple months the game was busted.

True but in the annals of suckage it is but a minor footnote, given the amount.

So... there's definitely an increased crackdown right now... i was playing around mentally with a pretty lame theory that this is a pre-election "tough on crime" publicity stunt... hoping the busts would stop after November... but it doesn't make sense.... "MIKE BLOOMBERG: TOUGH ON CRIME. TOUGH ON POKER" is not really compelling and I don't think the general public sees card rooms as any kind of threat.... I wonder if the illegal card room scene will retreat back into the shadows as some are urging... or if it's simply more attractive as a business venture for someone to open a club, earn several hundred thousand during the club's life span (EV was open less than 6 months I believe), and walk away with a profit when it gets busted. Doing that one or more times may be more financially attractive than setting up a super-private venture that takes a long time to earn the same amount of money.

I too have seen this dealer. It was quite a sight. Word on the street has it that he lost his fingers due to massive gambling debt. He is known as the degenerate Korean shaper. Check it out.

played 10/20 with him at one of the clubs a couple of weeks ago. i was amazed at how adept he was at handling the chips and cards. he was totally on tilt and great for the table. i made a huge error by trying to run a total bluff on him by c/r the turn, leading the river, and finally folding to his river raise. he yelled at me. "how could you not call my raise?"
