Best and Worst Movie remake ever???
My recent unfortunate viewing of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, has got me trying to think of a remake of a classic film that is better than the original.
The 3 most recent one's I have seen (charlie, the manchurian candidate, and the stepford wives) were horrible movies even if you didn't even know that previous better versions existed. Are there any movies that are actually better than the original? |

Re: Best and Worst Movie remake ever???
The original Manchurian candidate is one of my favorite movies of all time.. My dislikingf it had nothing to do with denzel or any of the other actors.. just don't see the need to mess with perfection

Re: Best and Worst Movie remake ever???
I will not be viewing the new bad news bears movie in anticipation of it's suckage. There is no way I'm going to let that movie spoil any memories of the original...
I can't imagine in a year how [censored] pissed I would be if someone said to me on the street corner "Hey, how 'bout that Buttermaker" and someone named "Billy-Bob" pop'd into my brain instead of Walter. |

Re: Best and Worst Movie remake ever???
Ocean's 11 certainly is up there for best remakes...
Another really good remake is "The Man Whe Knew too Much." That is also the only case I know of where a director (Hitchcock in this case) remade his own movie. People seemed to like "The Ring" (remake of "Ringu") I liked Vanilla Sky more then Abre Los Ojos even though it does have Tom Cruise in it. Scarface is a great remake... I liked The Magnificent 7 and Fistfull of Dollars (western remakes of Sinchin no Samurai and Yojimbo respectively) but while I like both, I wouldn't say that either was better (or even as good) as the original. That said, while I enjoyed all of the movies listed above, Ocean's 11 was the only one that was drastically better then the original, so that gets my vote. Wasn't "The Avengers" a remake of an old TV show? If that counts it certainly has to be the worst because it might still be the worst movie I've ever seen... |

[/ QUOTE ] I didn't think of either of these movies as remakes because the originals were so recent. To me it was more like "OK, we have a couple really cool foreign films, but we probably can't market them in America without a bigger budget, english and some star power, so we have to remake them." I could have enjoyed Vanilla Sky, but it just bothered me the whole time thinking about how hip and clever Cameron Crowe must have thought he was making it. |

I haven't seen the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but I enjoyed the Manchurian Candidate. Perhaps not as good as the original, but still an enjoyable movie. I really thought the remake of Ocean's 11 was better than the original. The Dawn of the Dead remake is another one that worked for me.
