I think you should have told them the truth and lived with the consequences. this is like middle school stuff. I don't think you have to bear complete blame for what happened. he may have been headed in that direction anyway. but invading someone's private stuff, and then playing a video of them whacking off, is generally the kind of thing you're taught not to do in high school. but I wouldn't lose sleep over it. you might've made the world a better place.

[/ QUOTE ] neither do I. not the point. that portion of video shows the cameraman touching a sleeping woman. was she really sleeping? was she the cameramans lover? did she ask him to do this and film it for her amusement? was somebody holding a gun to his head to do this? WAS DAN THE CAMERAMAN?

On the other hand those who do have these desires certainly have the responsibility never to act on them no matter how much they wish to. In this specific case it's worth pointing out that this guy wasn't exactly leading a life of stifling his desires. He had home video of a sexual assualt of a sleeping woman and child porn on polaroids. He sounds pretty dangerous and definitely should have been reported. I'm not a professional at this, and if anyone is, feel free to chime in, but this was the guy's trophy case. It's not a simple collection of porn, this stuff was personal. Anyone collecting is bound to have done it for quite some time, and apparently it was escalating. He was collecting reminders of his victories over his victims. It's all about power, not sex. Why shoot a video of yourself jerking off on your roommates bed? Because that was a way of reminding yourself of your victory over your roommate. It's a very hostile act. Killing himself was his way of dealing with the impending loss of that power, not a sense of shame. Shame is for those who realize they have done something wrong. This guy saw himself as perfectly justified. The OP and his buddies misplay was in not reporting it immediately to superiors instead of trying to make a joke out of it. They're lucky that's all he did, kill himself. The danger to themselves was considerable.

My response was to your comment that the man's life was worthless. I also described him as dangerous and that he should have been reported. There was also nothing about the guy shooting a video on the roommate's bed. raisins
