Default Quick question on the shooting stars tourney

I was just watching the one from a couple of seasons ago on the WPT. It got me thinking, do the "stars" get comped part or all of their entry fee?

If not, it would seem to me that choosing to be a star would be a negative ev decision. You pay your entry fee just like everyone else, but other people are making decisions at the table totally independent of winning the tournament. They want you, specifically, to lose, so they can collect their bounty. This could completely mess up various situations, bluffing and otherwise, within your game plan.

So what benefit is there to being one of the stars with a bounty?

People would be more willing to take a risk against you in a potentially -EV situation (tournament chip-wise) to collect a bounty.

that plus they get their own bounty if they make it to the FT.
I nearly had david williams last year but he managed to fold top pair on a three flush board (drawing dead to my nutflush) getting like 2:1 on the river. He then tilted off in the next orbit to John Esposito.
