Why is this play so wrong?
PartyPoker $33; blinds 150/300
SB 1815 BB/Hero 1895 UTG 1880 BTN 2410 SB posts 150 BB posts 300 dealt to SB -- KQs dealt to BB -- JJ UTG and BTN fold SB pushes allin for 1815 BB calls allin (has SB covered barely) According to ICM, if SB pushes allin with KQs, BB should fold JJ, even though JJ is the favorite and BB will make the money if he wins. Not to mention that BB will be the big stack at the table and have an excellent shot at first. The $EV is $64.68 for a fold and $62.39 for a call, giving a -0.8% difference for a call. Is this a case where ICM should be ignored? |

Re: Why is this play so wrong?
If you *knew* the SB had KQs, sure, you should fold JJ (the ICM works because you lose too much by calling.)
Putting the SB on his proper range, which is 'two cards', of course you should call. |

Re: Why is this play so wrong?
57% just isn't good enough. You don't like calling on the bubble. You want others to call. However, if he's pushing AA-55, AK-AT, KQ, JJ's probably a bigger favorite over that range.
And this is the perfect case for ICM. |

Re: Why is this play so wrong?
So you guys would always fold here, even though there are 600 chips of dead money in the pot, you are a 55% favorite, and your stack will decrease to ~T1600 after this hand? It just doesn't seem like that would be the correct thing to do.
By the way, my question isn't about SB's range. My question is if ICM tells us the correct thing to do in this exact situation (i.e SB pushes with KQs and BB has JJ). |

Re: Why is this play so wrong?
this situation is 100% irrelevant if you're not talking about the possible range of hands the SB has, why don't you just play poker with cards face up?

[/ QUOTE ] Yes, if you know he has KQ (or AQ, AK, KK, QQ, AA) you would fold your JJ here. But this is completely irrelavent for actual play since you will never KNOW your opponent has KQ. It would be like me saying "I have 1000 chips in the BB and post my 300 blind and get dealt KK, the SB pushes with AA and has me covered should I call". |

Out of curiosity, how are you figuring fold equity?

Re: Why is this play so wrong?
I think the OP is asking about ICM concepts not about the actual hand. And in this case it is easier to "know" that your opponenet has KQ. I don't think he is asking how to play JJ in this spot. I could be wrong, but this is my interpretation.
