Default Vegas during CES/AV convention?

Can any Vegas locals comment on the quality of the poker action during CES/AV conventions in January?

One problem with this time period is that hotels will be astronomical. I will either stay off strip at the Nugget or Orleans, or on-strip at some dump like the IP, Barbary Coast, Boardwalk, etc.

My other option is to go during MLK weekend.

Im looking for soft middle limit action from 10/20 to 20/40.

Thoughts?

Well I do know that Super Bowl weekend is one of the best poker weekends of the year. They may be around the same time.

Any time there is a huge convention in Vegas there are extra-soft games to be found (at almost all limits). That said, I wouldn't put CES at the top of my list for supplying the fishiest fish.

The best thing about any convention that draws several hundred thousand people to Vegas is that you will find a greater % of tourists in your game than on an average night.

You wont be staying at the Boardwalk. It's closing on the 9th. Thank god.

OK, I've booked a trip to cover 4 days at CES/AV convention in Vegas. Due to exorbidant hotel prices on the strip, I'll be staying at the Orleans. Airfare from NYC, plus 4 nights hotel, plus car, $950. Im pretty happy.

Ouch. So about 650 for hotel and car for 4 days...that's rough. I know there are better deals to be found at the non casino Mariott type places and so on. I would say look around a little bit or go to www.lasvegasadvisor.com and check their "reservations" or "special" pages. They usually have sick deals exclusive to the links on their site. I remember seeing the Orleans for 39/night when it was 79 on the O's site.
