Weird Transfer Stuff at Stars - TROGAN?
I was playing at Stars last night when I had the weirdest thing happen to me. Suddenly (without any effort from me) a box popped up saying something to the effect of:
Confirm if you want to transfer $10 to Mississauga. I do not even know this player, let alone want to transfer to him. It had a heap of other words - like contact stars if there is a problem. So i clicked No and contacted stars right away. The support at stars is very good but they didnt seem to have heard of this before - they offered the following advice: We have not received a request from you or the other player to a transfer being requested. Should we receive a transfer request and it is processed manually or if you do an electronic transfer our system does not create a pop-up regardless. There are very strange viruses going around (as always) and it is very wise to be aware of this. Should you receive such a pop-up in the future it would be safe to close it rather than respond. -- Anyone else seen this before? What should I do? |

Do a spyware and virus check immediately, if you haven't already.

Someone could be running a script on your computerthat excecutes the command to transfer that money. Virus check, adware, the whole 9 yards, check it all.

Re: Weird Transfer Stuff at Stars - TROGAN?
Just an update:
I had done scans with Lavasoft Ad-aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, E-trust antivirus - all brought up nothing. Then I purchased Spyware Doctor and it found Trojan.Dropper on my computer. However that doesnt seem to have been the problem. I heard this back from stars this morning: ... I'm told by one of our other Poker Specialists that this may have been unrelated to this virus... and that what it may have been was a mis-fire of the automated macro used by PokerTracker to request your hand histories from PokerStars. If you are using PokerTracker and its automated hand gathering, and you happen to be doing just the wrong thing when it decides to request hands, it can mis-fire and request a transfer instead. "Mississauga" was not the player name, but instead was a player location -- that is a suburb of Toronto. So long as you don't confirm that transfer dialog when it mis-fires, you're fine. ... Weird huh? |

This doesn't really help you out....but I can confirm that Mississauga, Ontario is a fairly major Toronto-subrub (and a hockey hot-bed).

I was using auto request at the time - so I think it is probably the case - it seemed to happen at the same time as a request was going through. Still a pretty odd misfire if you ask me.
