Best place to buy memory online?
I'm looking to buy 1gb of memory for my Dell Inspiron 8600 online. What is the best and cheapest place to get it?
Also, I'm clueless, I'm pretty sure my laptop is 2dimm which I think means I can put another gb of memory in there. Is this correct? Thanks! |

Re: Best place to buy memory online?
Ok, apparently my system has...
1024 MB of memory installed; and will support up to 2048MB. Slot 1 512 MB Non-parity DDR PC2700 Slot 2 512 MB Non-parity DDR PC2700 You have 0 empty memory slot(s) out of 2 total memory slots. So, in order to fill my memory to capacity will I have to buy two more of 1000mb? Or how does it work? |

Personally I'd just leave it as is unless you are heavy into gaming or graphic design. 1 gig of RAM is plenty for most folks. |

Re: Best place to buy memory online?
What are you doing that needs more than a gig of memory? There aren't a whole lot of things that benifit much from over a gig of memory.
For your desktop, you would need to get a 2x1gig kit to have the full 2 gigs in there. www.newegg.com Value ram is decently cheap. Kingston, Crucial, Corsair, OCZ and Mushkin are all reputable, generally rock solid brands. |

Re: Best place to buy memory online?
I have a bud who requires the full 8 gigs capacity available to him on his x86 platform for ripping DVDs and simultaneously encoding the video into xvid AVI format without having the HDD hit at all!!
I think he's got the whole process down to about an hour and a half. Just thought I'd mention it as an outrageous use of computing equipment that requires onerous amounts of RAM. |

Crucial.com is defintely a great site that gives you great info but it's not the cheapest online. You can get a memory price comparison from
