Default 7.5:1 preflop to make this call.

Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (10 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is BB with 4, 5.
UTG calls, 1 fold, UTG+2 raises, 1 fold, MP2 calls, 4 folds, Hero calls, UTG calls.

it was me vs all on the small stakes forums a little while ago. i said i would had folded this preflop cause you are gettin 2:1 odds. they said no its awful to fold here, you are gettin 7.5:1 which is my question. How can you get 7.5:1 from 1 raiser and 1 caller.

you have 1 bet in already. someone raises making it anotehr for you to call (1) someone else calls (1) thats 2 bets out thats not accounted for (2) and you are calling 1 raise. 2 to 1. is that not right? if not then i'm lost cause thats how i've been counting =(

They're right, it's 7.5:1.

<ul type="square">[*]Your big blind already in the pot - 1 [*]UTG's limp and call of the raise - 2 [*]UTG+1's raise - 2[*]MP2 cold-called a raise - 2*[*]SB folded - 0.5[/list]
That makes 7.5 before you put a second bet in. Count your blind in there because it's already lost to you -- the only way to get it back is to win the pot, so it figures as your payoff, not as part of your present bet.

That said, is it good to call getting 7.5::1 with 54o? Suited I would, no doubt.

*This is possibly a horrible cold-call, by the way -- most hands good enough to call a raise are good enough to reraise.

Interesting question. Here's what PokerStove says:

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>
equity (%) win (%) / tie (%)

Hand 1: 18.8953 % [ 00.18 00.01 ] { 5s4h }
Hand 2: 27.0228 % [ 00.25 00.02 ] { random }
Hand 3: 27.0526 % [ 00.25 00.02 ] { random }
Hand 4: 27.0293 % [ 00.25 00.02 ] { random }
</pre><hr />

Now for something a little less random:

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre> equity (%) win (%) / tie (%)

Hand 1: 17.6551 % [ 00.17 00.00 ] { 5s4h }
Hand 2: 18.4126 % [ 00.17 00.01 ] { random }
Hand 3: 36.4615 % [ 00.36 00.01 ] { AA-TT, AKs-ATs, KQs-KTs, QJs-QTs, JTs, AKo-ATo, KQo-KTo, QJo-QTo, JTo }
Hand 4: 27.4708 % [ 00.27 00.01 ] { 88-66, ATs-A5s, KTs-K6s }
</pre><hr />

So, the equity numbers seem to support a call, however I'd still probably fold it. I just don't have the fortitude to call a bet with total junk like this.

Regards,

T

Nope, 7.5-1. I personally would not call though. Odds or not, it's not that great of a starting hand in that situation.
