you dont mention stacksizes, but your river bet is way too small here... youre trying to get him off 99-QQ here... and you bet half pot? bet 2000 on river.

[/ QUOTE ]

The pot had 1200ish in it, and I bet 800. So, 2/3 the pot. I only had about 1400 left(he had me covered), and felt as though this would be a convincing enough "value bet" and would have as much effect as betting the rest of what I had - but who knows, I'm just feeling my way through here as I said before.

Don't like it. He has QQ a lot here and I doubt he'll fold it.

You may even see a weirdly played AA/KK or even a set. Seriously.

[/ QUOTE ]

A set is the last thing I am worried about. There is no way a set doesnt check raise that turn

Of course it's rare for a set to check three times but it happens.

so what happened and what's your defense because this is an interesting thread to me. also what were the stack sizes?

thanks.

[/ QUOTE ]

What's my defense? I've already outlined clearly why I bet the river... as for what happened? Will my play be better if he folded and worse if he called with 55? Anyways, this time he folded and I won. I'm trying not to be too results oriented(though I'm finding it much harder to do this in NL) so I suppose I'll post a few more hands as they occur to me.

[/ QUOTE ]im sure yeti appreciates the lesson, but i think you should remove the authoritative tone from your post, seeing as you have no clue of what youre talking about...

i agree with everything yeti said, especially that his most likely hand is QQ. i think thats his #1 most likely hand.

BTW james/ i dont think betting 800 and moving in are the same w/ regards to folding equity... just move allin here if you havent seen him make big calls. betting 800 is just giving it away.

By the way, if I was Villain with a set and I had check-called the flop and checked the turn, I would rarely raise here.

Even though it is an entirely transparent move wouldn't Villain probably lead the river for about 400-500 if he had an overpair? This would slow down almost any hand unless Hero had big balls and a great read.

Therefore, if we have a read that Villain is a thinking player I don't think the river bluff is as bad as everyone is saying.

well nh.

if he had 99/10's this still seems week to me after the flop/turn call. i wonder what he had? maybe 5's that he felt he took to far?

I have a tough time putting villain(with his stats and the the call from BB) on anything but JJ or QQ.

this is why the fold is confusing to me , and why i would have checked the river and probably lost the hand .
