Default 100-200 against stoxtrader

In a shorthanded 100-200 game and I'm dealt black AA in the BB. Lakerman_ raises in the CO-1 and stoxtrader cold calls out of the SB. I three-bet and we all head toward a flop of

Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
I bet, Lakerman_ folds, stox calls.

Turn is a 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

He checks, I check behind.

River is a K, he checks, I bet, and he check-raises. I call. What do you think?

I really don't like the turn check, i know way ahead or behind, but i think that short you need to bet this and even a good player like stox will have to give you action with a lot of hands that you beat. On the river I would be tempeted to 3 bet.

You didn't explain why you checked the turn. Regardless, I don't think it's a good move.

Obviously you're willing to pay off a river checkraise, and a river checkraise in this spot usually shows more strength than a turn checkraise. Perhaps you put him on KJ or something and wanted to give a free card. I don't like that plan.

There are plenty of hands that he could have that would give you action on the turn and river.

I really don't think he has a queen here. I'd be thinking about 3-betting the river, although I probably couldn't pull the trigger myself.

Three betting? Right. You think he's ever paying off without a queen or better here? Because I sure as hell don't.

Depends if he'd pay off with a king, but if you say he won't, then I think you played it fine.

Short handed your play is to bet the turn and if check/raised by a good player, 3 bet. If he 4 bets, you're probably looking at 99 or a Q, but you have to call. <edit> You are calling mainly to stop a worse hand from betting the river, but also to spike an ace <endedit> If you don't snag an ace on the river fold only if you know him very well, which you seem to.
