Pokerstars only pays affiliates a one time fee (CPA) for new players so it is impossible to get rakeback there.

So is there any reason to sign up through an affiliate versus directly? Anybody offering part of the one-time fee?

You can't get rakeback; you can get a $50 deposit bonus from a few affiliates.
