Default At The Drive In or MarsVolta/Sparta

So, each offshoot band has 2 albums and an EP under their belt. It would be the cool thing to say, ====OMGLOLZ! ATDI was the best!!!, Sparta sucks and Mars Volta is contrived! Jam band [censored]!== But I think that At the Drive In really hit their peak with Relationship on Command, and the debut albums from both offshoot bands really were underrated (especially Sparta's - Wiretap Scars). So I think after a few years, we as music fans are better off for the break up.

You little indie hipster posuers have any original thoughts?

I like all 3 a lot.

Out of all their work, I have to say that Wiretap Scars is the best album, and Red Alibi on that album is a [censored] amazing track.

Mars Volta singer tried way too hard on Frances the Mute. Kinda disappointing after De-loused.

Of any of the albums put out I liked Wiretap Scars the most.

Yeah, Frances the Mute is a huge letdown. And actually so is the second Sparta album (name escapes me). I still REALLY like the debuts enough to vote for the split.

I vote split, although the only reason I consider Sparta is cause the of the bassist.

But, I disagree on your ATDI observation. Relationship of Command was awesome but I like Vaya/In Casino Out better

I wouldn't call Frances the Mute a huge letdown at all.

I voted split but I like all 3 a lot.

What about live shows? I never saw ATDI and haven't seen Sparta, but I saw Mars Volta in September and it was pretty amazing.

I don't like Sparta that much, I feel like most of the creativity went to the Mars Volta. I loved De-loused, and liked Frances the Mute a little bit less (though I think fans were too hard on it). ATDI was just great, though - I remember how upset I was when they split (though the differences between Sparta and the Volta make it obvious how wide the creative rift was there). I probably consider ATDI and the Mars Volta equal, though it depends on my mood.

Also, Relationship of Command was clearly the best ATDI album, anyone who says otherwise just wants to be indie. Though I did love in/Casino/Out.

Amazing?! I find their live show completely boring. ATDI was awesome live. Sparta is good, I've seen them a few times. They really rocked at Coachella.
