Bad laydown?

Sitting down at a $0.50/$1.00 limit holdem game at Royal Vegas (trying to clear a bonus), I posted the $0.50 big blind on my very first hand was pleased to find JhJs. A player in MP raised, the button called and I decided to just call, as I had no reads yet. Flop comes down T86 with two hearts, not particularly threatening. I bet out, MP raises and the button three-bets. Not wanting to pay two small bets, possibly three, to play this slightly ahead/way behind situation out of position on the next two streets, I mucked.

Would anyone play this hand differently?

Preflop: very bad.
Flop: Even worse.

Most people who don't raise JJ preflop do it because they want to wait for a non-threatening board, ie they have an overpair or they hit a set. You have your overpair and you even have the J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] in your hand. I cap this without a second thought.

Yes. 3-bet preflop and cap the flop. Laying that one down is plain weak. You have a backdoor straight and flush (although maybe not a good one), but you definately have some outs if you're behind (2 J's, 1.5 on the backdoor straight and perhaps 0.5 for the backdoor flush). Of course there's a chance you're behind, but you might as well be ahead of both your opponents.
At 0.5/1 I've seen people raise and 3-bet preflop with small PPs, any suited Ace and other dubious hands, and without reads you just cannot lay down an overpair with this very good flop. [img]/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img]

edit: to be a little more specific: you don't need reads to raise / cap with JJ PF, you need reads not to do it.

You didn't play this hand well.

Three-bet preflop. This is automatic, but especially so against unknowns.

You probably folded the best hand on the flop.
