Default I have a virus...what now?

(I am computer retarded)
So searched twoplustwo to see what free virus scanning was out there and "AVG" was recommended(somebody posted a link and I downloaded).

A search brought up this...
Virus identified- "Java/ByteVerify"
There were 12 infected files found.
2 of which I was able to "move to vault" but the others it says, "infected, embedded Archiv"
So I go the the "virus vault" and there are a couple files that are stored there, but what do I do about the others?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

My advice would be to go to a site that specializes in computers, not poker.

My suggestion is computercops.biz. They have been helpful to me in the past, but I had spyware issues, not virus issues. They should be able to help though.

Good luck.

"Embedded Archive" means the virus is inside a ZIP file. You want to delete the ZIP file that contians the virus. IIRC, AVG should tell you the name and location of the ZIP file.

My poker related advice following: change your poker passwords as soon as you get virus out. Consider buying antivirus software with permanent monitoring module (I think Norton Antivirus has one).

If you purchase Norton Internet Security or Norton Anti-Virus it will help prevent you getting a virus, tell you if you have a virus and tell you how to remove a virus should you get infected. Somehow I got Trojan Horse last week and was able to get rid of it fairly easily. I am not the most computer literate operator.

You should have a firewall operating, also.

ZoneAlarm has a high quality free soiftware that should do the job - find it with google...

Also, frequently check Windows Update and get all the security patches - do it NOW!...

i had these too, which i discovered when i upgraded to the new free AVG version - they were in Documents and Settings, in the jpi_cache, whatever that is

AVG gives you the details of exactly where each one is, and i think, like someone else mentioned, most of them were in zip files

i made a System Restore point (Windows XP) in case something went wrong, found each affected file in turn, did individual virus checks on each file, deleted each one, then emptied the Recycle Bin

this worked for me with no side effects and i have been clear since

Thanks all for the help.
Yea it's that same one Mike.

Freakin cat's always seem to put a bad taste in our Devils mouths at the end of the football season. Winning 9 games including a last minute drive in the Sun Bowl against Purdue is nice, but losing to a basketball school just sucks.
