Re: Any new Mohegan Sun rumors?

In risposta di:

I honestly believe that the excuse of not being able to support 2 rooms is B.S. Slots make more money and don't call in sick or have benefits to be given to them. Simple as that. It's all about the benjamins... [/ QUOTE ] but, you just said:
In risposta di:
The actual quote said something to the affect of "at the time we closed our poker room, we felt that New England couldn't support 2 poker rooms.". Which, at this time was true. [/ QUOTE ] so which is it? was their story true, or is it BS? i for one, know it is BS. there was plenty of demand for 2 poker rooms. clearly slots would make more money for the casino, there's no argument there. |

[/ QUOTE ] You probably know this, but I just woke up and need to exercise my fingers The average slot machine is more profitable, but sometimes incremental slot machines are not. By incremental, I mean that slots located in prime areas (near the front, near isles, ect.) make the most money. Eventually, you run out of places to put extremely profitable slots, since slots in out of the way or undesirable areas would typically be used only during peak hours. In areas where casinos can expand relatively easily and quickly, your casino floor space becomes big enough to support a poker room or other low margin games. That said, sometimes casinos put in a poker room and sacrifice some profit because that is what the public expects in a full service casino. If Mohegan Sun has room to expand again, my guess is a poker room will go in then. But there also may be some built in bias against poker in upper management. For example, if I was a casino manager/owner, I wouldn't like hearing the way poker nits typically treat and potentially offend my high rollers. ~ Rick |

Re: Any new Mohegan Sun rumors?
I heard the reason the poker room was closed was because the management of the poker room was not getting the job done. The only way they could get rid of everyone was by closing the poker room. I think once the next addition gets put in (phase 2 or phase 3 I forget) you will see a poker room at Mohegan Sun.

Re: Any new Mohegan Sun rumors?
The region can't support another room, even FW is dead during the weekdays in the daytime. The only way MS will reopen the room is if it feels they need that ammenity to lure group business. It seems that certain corporate group events now like to throw in a poker tournament as part of the activity package.

[/ QUOTE ] This is almost the correct answer - the floors/dealers were involved in shady schemes and the room manager did not take care of it. Mohegan shut the whole thing down as it was easier and more PR friendly than "investigations", "arrests", and "multiple firings". Orange PS - The not supporting two rooms was total bs coverline. |

[/ QUOTE ] While I don't frequent the room during the day, I do go there at least a few times a month randomly on a weekday and the room is usually quite full -- dozens and dozens of tables going, with waiting lists. Few rooms can say that. Connecticut could easily have a second room - and they should, but it shouldn't be up in upstate CT, but rather in Bridgeport or Danbury, where there have been rumors of a casino opening for years. Re: Any new Mohegan Sun rumors?
Just so we get the timeline right, Travel Channel started broadcasting the WPT on March 30th, 2003 and Mohegan Sun closed the poker room on September 2nd, 2003.

Re: Any new Mohegan Sun rumors?
Agreed. I imagine every room in Las Vegas would like to be as "dead" as Foxwoods is - forgetting that FW has more total tables, there are probably more people in the room on a Wednesday afternoon then there are at The Mirage on a Saturday night.
