Re: I want a unique pet
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I'd prefer something somewhat quiet, yet entertaining with tons of bonus points if practically everyone who sees my pat has to ask what it is. I'd like to keep the final price tag under $1000 w. cage and everything included. Any ideas? [/ QUOTE ] Don't you already have a hot, young personal assistant? Can't you just like buy a cage and be GTG? Yugoslav [/ QUOTE ] "It rubs the lotion on its skin, else it gets the hose again" |

Re: I want a unique pet
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Very friendly (to everyone but me, he wants to kill me). [/ QUOTE ] Can you blame him? You've imprisoned him in a cage. Why would he like you? Generally speaking, I don't think reptiles make good pets. They're animals that would run away in a second if you let them. I want my pet to be an animal that wants to stay. [/ QUOTE ] Dude, he has a better pad then me. That's a 125 gallon fish talk, flipped up-side-down onto it's base, which is about 150 gallons of space itself. I cut-out the doors and screened them in, cut holes between the sections at various places and put in 'shelves' that make it a dual-level pad. It's about 275+ gallons of space and he's been in there since he was about 2 inches long (he's about 16 now head to toe) It's the only piece of furniture in my house I dred moving whenever the time comes. Crazy pain in the ass. |

Re: I want a unique pet
[ QUOTE ]
If you can get a hold of one, a Mongoose would be great (and extremely unique). My dad had one growing up and apparently they are the bomb. Even better if you have other animals for him/her to interact with. That or a Quatamundi (sp?).....he had one of them too and it was pretty sweet. Yugoslav [/ QUOTE ] they will kill snakes for u!!! Re: I want a unique pet
Yeah, they aren't really pets---but neither are plants, and I also enjoy cultivating them. My cat is for petting, my boids are for "keeping." And breeding. Lots of loot if/when my papuans drop.

If sugar gliders do this with any regularity, they demand consideration:

Re: I want a unique pet
Bearded Dragon
"Bearded Dragons (Pogona vitticeps) are reasonably common pets as they are a manageable size, placid in temperament and as with most reptiles, once you have a vivarium set up, they are relatively easy to keep. In addition they live very well in captivity, develop real character and can be a constant source of amusement." http://www.hunterian.gla.ac.uk/news/.../max/max.shtml |

Re: I want a unique pet
Whatever you get, make sure you do some research and know how to take care of it. The biggest problem with exotic pets is that the owners get something because they think it is neat but dont have a clue as to what they are getting into.

Re: I want a unique pet
Get a racoon. They are incredibly smart animals. No idea if they can be domesticated though.
