Default Harrah´s Ak-Chin

Has anyone played at this casino? I just moved out to AZ (Maricopa) and I noticed there is a Harrah's in my freakin backyard.

Smokey,

I used to live in Arizona when I first went on this board a little over a year ago. I haven't seen a post with any info about Harrah's in that time although a few people have asked questions about it.

I do know this. When Harrah's Ak-Chin opened originally they had poker. Later they shut the room down. They reopened it when the poker boom started.

Since you are so close you should check it out and write a report.

Ragnar

I went there a couple years ago. There were 6-8 tables. Only two were open the night I was there. One was 1-5 stud and the other 4-8 holdem. Not too crowded, but it was a weeknight. I would take the drive to Gila River in Chandler or Casino Arizona in Scottsdale if I were you. Much bigger and better rooms. At least they were the last time I was there, last september. Definitely good for tournaments.

Gila River used to be the place for poker in the south valley, much better than Harrah's. But a little while ago they decimated the poker room, reducing it by more than half and putting in slots and blackjack. Plus they changed the poker tourneys and they are no longer worth playing. For poker in phoenix I'd recommend Casino Arizona Indian Bend for higher limits and Fort McDowell (lower rake by far) for lower limits.

I'll do that. Now they only have poker Wed-Sun. I'm assuming there must be numerous fish there as it's out in the middle of nowhere.

I'm just happy there is one this close to me (2 miles). I've played at Gila, however I've heard some bad stuff about it. I've heard that the dealers are in with a few players. They work together, no cheating the game, making it easier for them to find the best game. Scottsdale is a bit far for me being 30 miles away. Where is Fort McDowell?

Smokey,

Fort McDowell is quite a bit further for you than Casino Arizona. It is northeast of Fountain Hills just off the Beeline Highway to Payson.

I went to Ak Chin last night. This is my second time in a BM. The first time was about 4 weeks ago and I lost $200, but I had only about a week experience online with no book reading under my belt. Now after playing and reading and playing and reading more (books) the pass 3 weeks, I thought I'd go up to Ak Chin to see where my game was. Boy did I come up. The table was full with 4 fish (great table). I couldn't find one player that was actually a great player. Maybe I got lucky sitting down at that table.

Anyway, in my first 25 hands I played about 5 and I won all 5. This went down in the first 90 minutes. I came up about $280 as these 4 fish played and raised anything and everything. Then I wanted to loosen it up a bit just to see what would happen. I didn't go crazy but I'd play hands like QTo or medium pairs in early position. The first two hands I played like that I raise pre-flop and everyone folded to me with the exception of maybe 1 both hands. Needless to say I won both hands after raising after the flop as he folded both hands. Those two hands netted me about $45 so I am up a whopping $325 in less than two hours.

After those two “weaker” hands I went back to playing my original tight aggressive style. When I left after about 4 hours of play I was up a total of a little over $400. Damn it feels good to have a session like that. I came home and my wife didn’t believe me until I showed her the $615 (left the house with $200). Thanks for all of the help and putting up with newbie questions as I’m sure you’ve heard them 1000+ times.

Peace

Smokey,

Good session. What was the limit? How many tables were there? What were the limits on those tables? Were they spreading anything other than Hold 'Em?

I was playing 3/6. I think there are about 8 tables but I’m not sure. I know where aren’t too many though. Very small poker “area”. I’m not sure what other games they had as all I asked the lady was, “Where are the Hold ‘em tables”.
