Default $2/$4 rake analysis, The good, the ok, the ugly... I LOVE LEE JONES!

OK folks, Friday night, I open up a $2/$4 table that is in the mid range of average pots on Party. Let it run for 1.5 hours, take the first 80 hands and then ran them through every major sites rake structure.

The action seemed to get a bit wild at times so the sample average pot is higher than the analysis yesterday.. anyhoo.

The GOOD:

POKERSTARS IS GOD. 3.17% average rake, they take $1 at $20, @$40 and then not til $70

The good include: Fulltilt, Paradise, & Truepoker at 3.38%, very nice, only $1 for every $20.

Party and the Gaming Club start at $1 for $20 pot and take 50 cents for every $10 extra.. just ok at 3.82%

Absolute and Pacific take $.50 for every $10, and start at $10 for 4.19% average rake.

The bastards at Cryptos and UltimateBet feel it is necessary to take $.25 for every $5 out there for 4.51%

The greed award goes to Pokerroom, $.80 rake for $8-$23 pot, then $2 rake for higher. They chimed in at 5.23% tonight.

To recap in order of good to sucks:

Pokerstars 3.17
Fulltilt 3.38
Paradise 3.38
Truepoker 3.38
Party 3.82
Gaming Club 3.82
Absolute 4.19
Pacific 4.19
Crypots 4.51
UltimateBet 4.51
Pokerroom 5.23

Try doing some other levels later. Any sites I miss?

I'd like to know where GamesGrid fits into this, but it may not be worth your time.

Good stuff.

Absolute actually rakes $0.25 per $5 at 2/4, rather than $0.5 per $10 as they say they do on their website.

I dont think they have enough tables running to have the numbers really matter, until they get more players rake is irrelevant.

Same rake structure as the cryptos and UB. Although their bonus kinda makes the comparison flawed.

It's not like there's a triple draw equivalent of Party. I play where there are games. Most of the time that's UB, but occasionally I can get one started at GG. There's not really a third option, barring micro games at 24h.

Yup. That is why my *unmentionable* piles up faster
at AP than Party. That, and one fewer player per full
table.

Very nice job.

I think this post - or one like it and maybe expanded - should be made a sticky on the top of the internet forum. Players should have a place where they can easily compare the rakes they are paying so they can then decide where they want to play.

God help us if other companies start to look at rake in new and innovative ways.

Btw. Bonuses and rakeback will affect rake for the play. For example I would expect Absolute to go from a highrake to a lowrake alternative if one uses constant bonuses (which I guess is possible for even a player that plays a lot of hands) and rakeback.
