Default First Week as a Bally\'s Poker Dealer (Great Stories) Long!

Well, I just completed my first week as a Bally's Poker Dealer and come to this conclusion, I was absolutely born to do this..I've had so much fun cause you meet so many interesting people and everyday something different happens. When you love your job the time goes by. Every day I've had to work I always said to myself at some point, "Is it time to go? Feels Like I just got here." Anyway, here are a few observations I've made:

-- At the lowest limits (2-4), people are much more friendly, more apt to have fun, don't really care if they win or lost as long as their having a goo time and the game is being run right. When I'm dealing the 2-4 games, I make it a conscious effort to make sure the game is run smoothly. I'm more apt to have conversation to.

-- When dealing the NL games, I tend to be a little quieter and just run the game. I've pushed so many $100-$200 pots, that I make sure I count out the chips correctly. The competition is pretty good, bunch of brash young guys who have a good handle of LIve NL. But there is always one fish that feeds the game...

-- Players are much better tippers in the lower limits than the NL games. I'm not saying the NL players are bad tippers, but the low limit player who wins a 15 dollar pot will give you a buck as the NL player will win 400 bucks and give you the same about...I guess it's all relative..and if I get stiffed it doesn't really bother me as much as I thought it would cause there's always someone who will give you 4 or 5 bucks to make up for the stiffs.. AS long as the players are friendly and civil towards me and my fellow dealers I couldn't care less if they tip..

As a dealer, you deal so many hands but you do have a couple of hands that tend to stick out..here's a few:

Hand #1 1-2 Blind No Limit

Two players in the hand....flop comes 9 J Q...one player moves all in with K 10. Other player calls the rest of his money ($153) with QJ. On the turn I put another Queen.

hand #2 2-4 Hold em

Two players in the pot..about 20 bucks in before the flop. flop is K 3 2. Bother plays go into a raising war on the flop, turn and RIVER!!" One player has KK, the other one has AK...Ouch!!

Hand #3 -- 2-4 Hold Em (I swear this happened)

3 Players in the pot..

Flop comes 6 3 7....Capped on the flop..turn is a Q. AGainst capped on the flop. River is a King..once again, capped on the flop. When it was all over...one player had pocket 3s, one player hand pocket Q's, and the third player had pocket Kings!! I swear that's how the hand went

Finally..here's the hand of the night...

1-2 NL....

Pot is raised from late position and called by 4 players....flop 3 Q 9...Original goes all in for $790. He has everyone covered. First players goes into the tank and folds. Second player folds instantly, third player goes into the tank then folds angrily, then came the last player...The worst player on the table...he talks about what his opponent could have and what could beat him...these barb back and forth for at least 3 minutes....finally he says, "I'll call just for fun." . Original raiser has pocket 9s for a flopped set....The other guy has K4 OFFSUIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO DRAW, NO PAIR....K4OFF!!! He calls off about 250 bucks!!!! Needlessly to say I didn't put out any miracles for him...ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? AFter the player left, the other players commented outloud, "How come that never happens when I'm in a hand with him??" GREAT STUFF!!!

That's all I have for now, I'll try my best to give you as many stories as I can.....

Thanks for reading....

Just curious on what it takes to become a dealer.

What kind of background did you have to get the job?
What kind of training did you get?
What kind of hours do you work?
How do you fair money wise (sorry if too personal)?

Awesome. I'm glad you're really enjoying it. I hope that you continue to enjoy it as time goes on.

Do they mainly have you dealing the low games for the time being to get you broken in?

I was going to say something sarcastic but your enthusiasm for your job won me over. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to your future posts about the job.

(By the way, I predict you'll look back at these "amazing" hands as nothing special in, oh, about a week or so.)

I trained at the Casino gaming School in Vegas for 5 weeks. I've been played poker for 6 years, so I had a good grasp of how a game is supposed to be run. It's why I picked the skills of a poker dealer so quickly...Since I'm new, I'm an extra Board, which means I only work for 4 days a week, but my schedule as far as hrs are concerned varies from week to week..

i think it is awesome that you love your new job! I played at Ballys in December as i was staying a paris. We were playing short handed 4/8. About 20 minutes into the game it occurred to me that they were taking a full rake for the game. I asked the dealer and he told me that they cannot change it unless the player asks the superviser. I felt bad for the other players because they had been playing short handed for along time. They were new to the game and had no idea about the rake or changing it. Ultimately the superviser reduced the rake. But it was too bad no one even mentioned it to these guys.

Anyway good luck to you
