There is nothing in this study that suggests a cause and effect relationship.

[/ QUOTE ]

exactly. so whats your point?

the study's point was to demystify the religious belief that societies that are rich with secular agnostics and atheists are incapable of running a healthy society.

The US clearly sucks with it's high ratio of homicides. Why are so many people killed in the US?

The interesting thing about this thread now is to see how it is attacked, what reasoning is used, by the theist to defend his untenable, irrational position that has no fact to support or corroborate it.

To me it seems like the last gasps of a fish (good word that one and poker related too - and the pope is sometimes referred to as the fisherman).

It would be hilarious if it wasn't so serious.

Then I misread the author's intent. Honestly, I didn't really read the whole thing thoroughly as I found not much merit to his methodology. He seemed to just throw some data out there and juxtapose it to an issue, trying to relate the two. I could be wrong though.

Assuming his intent was what you state - I didn't know that this was an issue with anyone to begin with. I just hope he didn't use taxpayer dollars to conclude what seems obvious.

[/ QUOTE ]I think you'd proably want to guess again. It seems that the crack epidemic helped to reduce homocides, sure the number of deaths among drug dealers increased, but the epedimic itself reduced homicides. You may wish to say the illegality of drugs which is different than the war on drugs. The reason why homicides rates are so high is because theres is a greater real or perceived shortage of valueables in the US that elsewhere.

The argument that a godless society would be reduced to crime and rampant immorality has been argued on this board several times. In fact, it is being argued right now.
