top 2 in the BB 510 NL
It's six handed 5/10 NL.
I am in the big blind with Jd9h. There are 2 limpers, the SB calls, and I check. Stack sizes = approx. 1k for all players in the hand. The first limper was an aggressive, wild player. I had not played with the second limper in the hand before today. I had only been in this game for a few minutes and I had no read on him. The flop is 9c 4c 2s. SB checks. I lead out for 40, the 1st limper calls, and the 2nd limper calls. The SB folds. The turn card is the Jh. I lead out for 150. The 1st limper folds. The 2nd limper (the one I did not know), raises the pot to 300. Thoughts? |

Re: top 2 in the BB 510 NL
difficult situation if you have never played with the player before. i was involved in a similar hand yesterday. I would think that he was representing a small set but you have to play this hand aggressive, if he does have that set, then thats poker and youll have to pay him off... A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] is a strong possibility, past 2+2er's have told me to either fold or push here ...

Re: top 2 in the BB 510 NL
Slowplaying a set on this flop after the BB leads out is kind of dumb.

Re: top 2 in the BB 510 NL
I'd probably call, throw out a nice sized blocking bet on the river.

Absolutely correct. Folding every time your top two gets min-raised is a losing strategy. Call, bet out the river and fold to a big raise.

I pushed all-in on the turn, and was called. The opponent had pocket 8 8, for trip 8s on the flop. The river was a blank, and the 888 held.

Actually the hand was 999 by the opponent and the hand held up on the river. I did not hit my kicker, opponent won a big pot.

Glad you mentioned that. Anyone care to address this? I don't see how you can fold top 2 pair to a raise, after a river bet, considering the odds of the situation. Given that this option has not been explained further yet (betting river and folding to push), the most reasonable options I have seen are, 1. push the turn 2. fold the turn 3. call the turn, check the river #1 and #3 look most favorable to me; Folding top 2 pair to a miniraise doesn't seem like a good play. |

Re: top 2 in the BB 510 NL
Personaly, I would doubt that the opponent has aj/kj as he most likely would have raised pre flop given his position. Its also unlikely that he is raising a flush draw to try and steal given that you led out at the flop 4 handed. I would think this is a call and check or a fold.
