brits--help a dumb yank out?

I'm going to be travelling around the UK for the next month or so and wouldn't mind playing some cards while I'm over here. However, I have no idea how/where to find card rooms. I've seen a few 'casinos' in London so far, but they appeared to just be a lot of slots and a few table games, and looked a little seedy.
So, any suggestions on where I should look? Do I need to have an "in" with the place to get in the door?
