Live vs Online

Reason 1) collusion can happen online so easily, just by a few guys who know each other sitting in the same table. When u'r playing for 10k buy-in or more...u want casino level security.

Reason 2) WPT/WSOP makes alot of money by televising the events...you can't really televise a online tourney.

I'll agree that in low $ homegames, there are a lot of amateurs, beginners, wannabes, and just plain delusional idiots. BUT, high $ games, whether they're home games or at the B&M, attract some of the best players I've ever seen. Think about it guys, when playing online, the only tell that you're going to pick up on is the opponents style of betting. You could probably induce a tell by sending an IM, but then again jock itch could be good for you. A good live player picks up on tells from much more than just the betting style. Right? Think about it another way: How do you bluff on line and get away with it? Is it the same in a live game? I say, no. There are so many more nuances that you can add that will make it difficult for an opponent to spot your bluff. The opposite end of that spectrum is that there are so many nuances that you may make that allows your opponent to spot your bluff (that's what separates ho-hum from good). My point is that these things just can't be done online.

I'll put in my two cents.

I've played in casinos in Las Vegas and San Francisco as well as Los Angeles.

I play a lot of online and I used to play live more often, but now it's a once in awhile thing. I find that live play tends to be more loose. Why?

It's pretty simple. A lot of players who play live play for the action, and quite simply they often get only 30-35 hands an hour and will often lose patience and play marginal hands. Folding for an hour straight sucks.

Online, you get as many as twice as many hands per hour and you can play 4 (or even more!) tables at the same time. So that's about 8 times the action! Many people will multi-table and will tentatively be tighter as the next hand or decision will be about 3 or 4 seconds away. It's a safer way to fix their need for being an action junkie. Although I get 8 times the hands per hour, I probably make less per hand than in live play.

Plus, with the number of hands you get in per hour online, the fish are forced to play better, as they can't sustain the loss rate they would take per hand if they played the same as they did live.

Well thats why fish usually play higher stakes in a live game - you don't see many .25/.50 games going on in casinos now, do you.
