If you're not sure what to get, Pinot Noir (red) and Reisling (white) are both versatile wines that can go with most food. They may not always be the best choice, but they usually will not clash with your meal. The most popular reds (Cabernet, Bordeaux) and whites (Chardonnay) are often the wrong choice - they overpower many dishes.
