Default computer lag

If I have poker tracker running and 3 tables going my compter lags badly. I have a pentium 4 with 256mb memory, plenty of disk space. I know something wrong, but what? Can anybody advise me on what to do. I can't take it in to be fixed because the 2 day whithdrawl would be excrutating.
Thanks Joe

Yikes. What OS are you running? If you're running XP you need at least 512, preferably more. Memory is cheap, get some more.

First thing I will do is to check for spyware, viruses. Also, defrag your disk. Memory is so cheap, I will consider 512Mb of RAM

To remove suspected spyware/viruses

Perform an online virus scan.
Download, update, and run these tools:
Spybot Search & Destroy
Lavasoft Adaware
CWShredder
Repeat as necessary until clean.
If you still experience problems after doing these steps, download HijackThis

To protect against reinfection
download and use these:

Javacool's SpywareBlaster
Javacool's SpywareGuard
Malware-blocking HOSTS file

Good luck
