Better way to play this boat?
How could I have played this better?
3-5 NL HE I'm the big blind and look down at 10-10. Four limpers to me. I raise to 30. I get one caller. I haven't been at the table long, my initial read is he's pretty loose and aggressive. Flop comes: A-Q-T, rainbow I bet 100 (fearing a straight draw). The other guy calls. This worries me a bit. Q comes on the turn. I fill up and this is where I think I made my mistake. I got excited and went all in ($800). The other guy had me covered by quite a bit ($1400?). I guess my thinking was I didn't think he had aces, the only cards I fear. I think he reraises preflop with aces. I'm praying he has a straight. He thought for a long time, ALMOST called then folded. He had A-J. Thoughts? |

Re: Better way to play this boat?
I think that this is a classic case of where you are only likely to get called by a hand that beats you.
Any hand other thand AA or QQ is not going to follow through. Remember, you raised pre-flop and followed through on the flop. You could easily be sitting on the Aces or Queens (from his point of view). IMO, this is -EV in the long run. One last point, his calling the 6xBB raise with AJ is worth noting. So is the call on the flop. Top-pair with weakish kicker. Keep an eye on this guy. |

You're right about this guy. I was calling him ATM by the end of the night.

Re: Better way to play this boat?
yeah, you should have bet something around the pot. it's around $320 in the pot, right? something like $250 would be good...if called it'll let you get the rest of your stack in on the river.
