Re: Heavyweight Championship of Poker - great idea or doomed for failure?
Anyone who reads this entire thread along with the linked article is automatically eligable for 1.4% of the 3% of anyone who makes the final table owns of the winner providing that person with the 3% was at least 15% staked by non-poker related advertiser with an ad of at least 6 square inches that ran in 2 consecutive months. Re: Heavyweight Championship of Poker - great idea or doomed for failure?
heh, thats pretty funny,
but seriously the five star bellagio is $25,000+500 (2% fee) most WPT ME $9700+300 (3% fee) your typical 1k event $1000+75 (7.5% fee) your typical casino daily $100+20 (20% fee) fee percentile is supposed to go down the bigger the tourney. why the hell are they charging 10 times the bellagio for a 4x bigger buy in? |

Re: Heavyweight Championship of Poker - great idea or doomed for failu
It did take 7 years to get this off the ground, it shouldn't take 7 years to explain the tournament.
The champion would only have to defend his "title" 9 times a year at most, piece of cake. |

Re: Heavyweight Championship of Poker - great idea or doomed for failu
A $5000 entry fee is insane. If anything, they should run it with no entry fee so that they can establish the tournament. They could even give players a small cut of the TV money, which would encourage all the top players to play. They should make plenty from TV deals and sponsors anyways. Regardless, I hope this works, as it could make for great TV.

i doubt it's doomed for failure such as the 50k plaza tournament. look at the players they already have committed to play in the tournament.

Or perhaps these better describe the event and it's structure.... abstruse, bewildering, circuitous, complicated, confused, convoluted, crabbed, cryptic, daedal, discursive, disordered, disturbing, enigmatic, entangled, excursive, gordian, hidden, impenetrable, inscrutable, interwoven, intricate, involved, jumbled, knotted, knotty, labyrinthine, mazy, meandering, mingled, mixed, muddled, obscure, paradoxical, perplexing, puzzling, rambling, recondite, round-about, sinuous, snarled, sophisticated, tangled, tortuous, undecipherable, unfathomable, winding [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: Heavyweight Championship of Poker - great idea or doomed for failure?
Sounds interesting, but confusing.
I feel sorry for any amatuer player that wins, although it would probably be harder for him to do so in such a small field. But just looking at their numbers... Joe Blow wins the tourney and gets his $5M. He automatically loses part of that and only gets $3M because you only get 60%. Then he loses another 10-20% roughly to the other players that were at his final table and the site or advertisers who sent him or whatever. So he's down to maybe 1.5 or 2 mill. Then he has to pay taxes! That'll be about half, so he'll be around 750,000, which really ain't shabby. But THEN he has to "defend his title" and put up that $1M against another player. He is actually IN DEBT if my calculations were correct. If not, I know they were at least close. So this seems like it would suck for an "amatuer." I think I'd just try to get as far as possible and then try to bust out before I win. I also forsee problems with getting 9 people to put up a million against you every month. Although with pros staking each other that might not be so bad. But who's gonna stake the amatuer? lol. |
