A hand from the $10,000 even at Foxwoods

I have about 12,000 chips, blind are 100/200, I am BB with 99, a middle player raised to 800 so I called him, was that the right play? the flop comes 10s 9s 3h, I checked and he bet 1,000, what would your move be? he has about the same chip stack as I have, I was moved to the table shortly before and did not see him play any hand. Would you call or raise?

I'd make it t3000 here. Folding preflop is fine btw, as is calling.

the call isnt great, but its marginal, and gambling isnt terrible there.

but youve got to lead the flop and allow him to raise you. a c/r here is allowing him to get away from his hand with just a small CB, not to mention him checking it through is also gross on this board.

You absolutely have to bet on the flop. A nice pot size bet would be good.

A check/raise will probably just get a continuation bet from him. But a donk bet lead can possibly get his whole stack/double you up. It depends on if you think he has an overpair or just overcards. If you think he's got an overpair then donkbet. Just overs then check/raise or even check/call.

How tight is he?

EDIT: bah, what am I saying if he's got an overpair you get to double up no matter what. It's kinda hard to misplay this hand with your stack at the size it is.
