Default holiday inn vancouver or riverrock?

I’m heading down to Vancouver at the end of this month and I’m interested in playing some live poker. I’m interested in playing limit holdem 20/40 and up. From what I’ve read Riverrock in Richmond has the most tables and the biggest games. How good are the games here? Is there usually a long wait? How often do they spread 20/40 and higher? And does anyone know of any semi-decent hotels (I need high speed internet) that are within walking distance? (I’ve been looking at the Holiday Inn Express which is about 1km away but does anyone know of anything closer?)

The other place I was considering is the Holiday Inn on Broadway but from what I can tell they don’t spread higher than 10/20. Obviously this site would be convenient since I could just stay right at the hotel. Any comments on the game here would be appreciated as well.

I also need to commute between my hotel and UBC. What kind of cab fare should I expect to UBC from either of these locations?

Thanks for the help!

The games are extremely juicy. The HI is mostly 10/20. Go to River Rock for higher. Sometimes a 40/80 goes on weekends. Not too bad of a wait, but arrive before 6-7pm on weekends if you can.

Lots of free shuttles to RR from the airport hotels. Lots of good food near HI, but the location otherwise sucks.

To UBC, get a bus pass. Take the 99B from Broadway. Cab fare would be $20 one-way from RR and probably 10-15 from HI.

You don't want to play the Holiday Inn card room unless you cannot make it to River Rock. RR has 20+ tables. 20-40 is their biggest limit at RR and they spread it almost always. I asked about bigger games and they said "seldom...make that never." BUT they have very good, and lively, NL games up to the $500 buy-in level. Stay at the Airport Fairmont which is one of the best hotels in the country. They have high speed and it's a five minute cab ride into Richmond and the River Rock.

Having been to river rock once, I must say it's a very nice poker room and a very nice casino overall.

Have been to River Rock twice and loved it(meaning I made $$). Its also a really nice poker room with electronic boards and pagers.

There is a new Casino closer to downtown that just opened that spreads poker, called Edgewater. Haven't been there so if you go, let us know about it.

The Fairmont Airport is a really nice hotel, about a $10 cab ride from River Rock, but quite a distance from UBC. Basically the River Rock and UBC are not too close to eachother, so just pick which one you want to be closest to(in fact, it may be worth it to rent a car if you are going back and forth alot.

I agree with Ryden, don't play the Holiday Inn, everytime I have been they only had one or two tables going, but if you are in that neighbourhood, the greatest suishi restaurant on the planet is a block away, called Tojos. Its very $$$ but sit and the bar and let them feed you.
