[ QUOTE ]
Because of The Hustler? Or do you mean before that? [/ QUOTE ] Let's go with that. The movie came out around 1960 and was based on Minnesota Fats who played in the 40's and 50's. Therefore, that nickname had to be around way before the movie. |

There's not much more to it than that. |

[/ QUOTE ] No, he was called Fast Eddie because he raised the bet for the next set really high, really fast. Fast action. It had nothing to do with his game, unless you refer to the game beneath the game. And Minnesota Fats was not a real person. Rudolph Wanderone adopted the name long after Tevis wrote his book. |

And Minnesota Fats was not a real person. Rudolph Wanderone adopted the name long after Tevis wrote his book. [/ QUOTE ] He was real no matter if he was New York or Minnesota Fats. Your logic (to be nice) is like saying somebody isn't real because they are known by their board name |

Rudolph Wanderone stole the nickname Minnesota Fats from the movie, claiming that the movie was about him. He had always been called New York Fats, Brooklyn Fats, or just Fats. He had never been to Minnesota. Walter Tevis, who wrote The Hustler, has always denied the story is about him, and was pretty upset that he stole the name. He claims he made up Minnesota Fats and Fast Eddie. |

Re: Fast Eddy
That is interesting. However, it has nothing to do with my question.
