Why weird? If you don't finish in the money, does it matter if you go out first, or on the bubble? He is not going to money every tournament.

Yesterday, I was two spots from a final table of a MTT, that would have been a significant jump from where I was. I was delt KK got my money all in b4 the flop and was called and elliminated by AA. It could have happened to me first hand. Thats how it goes. If its the bubble, I rather it happen 1st hand than later like buble time, because both cases no pay-out, but 1st case, minimal investment of time.

Things happen in poker. Can't win em all. Can't even do well in em all.

I played one hand in a $5 MTT last night , hand #8.

Dealt AA , busted by a rivered str8 with Q10 after I put him all-in on the flop.

I was glad he called , went to the next MTT.

Why wierd?

To win MTT, you need to gamble.
If you gamble, you can be out at any hand.
Why not the first hand?

Odds are odds. It swings either ways. Regardless who you are.

I compare great poker players, to great sports players. There are times where you see great players in slumps, when they arent in the zone. There are times you see average players get into the zone and play great. I by no mean Raymer is an average player. Ive read enough of his posts and posts about his limit game to know better than sell him short. In poker especially online, so much depends on the cards and how they fall for you. you can only steal so many blinds and bluff your way through a tourney. It will buy you some time and gain you some chips short handed. There are alot of average players on line that get in the zone every night, and play great during these tourneys. Thats my two cents.
