Sometimes calling can make a nice pot
Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (9 handed) converter
Preflop: Hero is Button with Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. CO posts a blind of $0.75. UTG posts a blind of $0.5. CO has Qh 5s (one pair, queens). Hero has Qs As (one pair, queens). Outcome: Hero wins 17.50 BB. </font> On the turn I was 90% postive I had the best hand, but in order to keep the others in I just called down. If I would have reraised they probably would have folded. There was also that 10% doubt that someone had a QT. Would you bet the river instead of call? |

Re: Sometimes calling can make a nice pot
Um, you may have had the best hand on the turn, but you really really want them to fold. The pot is big enough, your giving correct odds to chase their gutshots etc. When the river is a 5 your going to be the one complaining about suckouts but you let them correctly catch up by going for overcalls at the wrong time.

Re: Sometimes calling can make a nice pot
You have to raise the turn. Not doing so is bad poker no matter if you have the best hand or not (I didn't see the results).

Thanks.. Points well taken. True enough about the 5 .
This is why I posted this up her, for the feedback. JB |

JB [/ QUOTE ] The problem with just calling is that your hand is still vulnerable. Even if you had something as strong as QQ I would still raise to a) to get money in the pot and b) to put people with maginal hands to tough decisions. With AQ, it is much more crucial that you raise because if someone folds a hand like K8 you would like it very much. Brad |

Re: Sometimes calling can make a nice pot
I agree with everyone else, you have to raise the turn, especially in position to face so many with 2 BB.
