Ciaffone hasn't been able to get his books picked up by a major publisher.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe. But he DOES have his books listed with the major wholesale supply houses, which most people who self-publish don't/can't do.

In other words, it's entirely a recognition issue. Your local bookstore can carry Ciaffone just as easily as any other book in print, if it chooses. Have you approached the managers of the bookstores you frequent and offered a suggestion? Most of us are very interested in knowing what our customers want and will stock anything we've been asked about twice or heard good things about and asked about once.
(And we aren't going to take chances on anything we HAVEN'T heard buzz about, especially if it's self-published... its extremely rare for self-published books to be any good, but Ciaffone's are.)

I've not read his NL/PL book but think very highly of his middle limit book. Making a note to self to order a copy so I can flip through it while I wait for someone to buy it, as a result of this thread.

Bob Ciaffone chooses to self publish his books. There are publishers who would love to publish his books. He is a great bridge, chess and poker player.

The main reason is that SuperSystem deals with DEEP stacks, whereas Ciaffone addresses the more normal games where people buy in for 75-100 x BB.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, in SS2 on pg 561 Doyle seems to say that his strategy works with 50bb stacks, but 100bb stacks is preferable. So deep isn't all that deep.

I think Mason gave the pot and NL book 9/10. Its good. Imrpove your poker is also really good.

[/ QUOTE ]

As already said Mason gave PL&NL 10/10, and IYP 9/10.

I find IYP to be the best published essay collection on poker. (Sorry Mason and David!)

His Omaha book is very good as well, but it's damn hard to get these days. Hopefully a reprint is coming.

He does play poker at certain times or tournaments at checknraise.com since he is the resident pro on this site.

This is actually one of the best poker books I've ever read. I really got a lot out of it.

While we're on the subject of Ciaffone's books.

I wanted to buy a few books, and e-mailed him at the address on his site. I know I can be a little impatient. Does anyone know what his usual response time is ?

I've emailed Bob a few times to ask him about the status of his next book (he's writing a new No-Limit Hold'em book which covers both tournament play and cash games).
Each time I have emailed him, he's replied back within a day.
