While the taxes probably aren't $50/night, a 20%+ tax rate on hotel rooms isn't uncommon which would make the room $180/night.

I believe the hotel tax rate in Vegas is 9%. Perhaps there are other fees or gratuities or something else included? [typed while wearing my glass is half full hat]

This is the same outfit that also takes 10% of the bad beat JP also as an "adminstration" fee. You bet they are trying to milk every $$ they can back to the mother land.

Yea they are so packed that week I just got a poker rate at Wynn's place for A LOT less than $200 night. I can also tell you its about 3x nicer than the MGM.

Can you give us an idea what the Wynn rate is, trying to get permission to go, may have to bring the wife for the OK and Wynn will appeal to her...

Wouldn't it be simpler just to try to win $10k and enter the WSOP on your own?

this is a fair point.

However...in the Stars situation you do actually get the extra $1k for 9-nights hotel that does NOT come out of the prize-pool So it is essentially an overlay of sorts.

Also consider the quality of players trying to get into the WSOP via a 300+28 on party or 615+35 on Stars. I believe the general skill level of the field in these is worse than a regular 300 or 500 MTT...or even the 100 SNG's.

For me...I like the pay-out structure of the satellites better too and feel I make better adjustments near the bubble.

your idea of just winning the money in whatever game you choose instead of playing in a satellite does have merit...but there are some +EV aspects to playing in the satellites that may make that the more attractive option for some.

I think the bad rake on party plus the fact that the hotel stay is taken out of the prize-pool don't make these so great.

i don't think it's so terrible for party to have made arrangements at one hotel instead of a different one though.

I might add they only have limited space on the poker rate, so book early.

Regardless of EV, some people only want to dedicate a limited amount of time/money to winning a seat. Given this, a satellie is a very viable option.

Does anyone think they'll be responsive at all to these concerns?

No, it's Party.

Are you allowed to just take the cash value of the prize instead, or is that only if you win multiple times?

If so, the answer is easy.
