What is a "donkbet"?

The best I can figure is that it is a strange bet out of nowhere from a terrible player. The bet could mean anything.

Can someone clear this up for me?

When someone who was being passive takes the betting lead.

Like they check call the flop but lead out on the turn. The turn bet would be considered a donkbet in this case.

I usually refer to minraises as donkbets.
Like, they'll minraise pf from UTG. I'll raise to about 3x their bet. Then they'll minraise the flop, I'll raise about the pot, and then they'll fold. [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

No. A Stop and Go would be.

Flop:
Guy 1 Bets, Guy 2 Raises, Guy 1 Calls.
Turn:
Guy 1 Bets.

I tend to call "donk bets" any bet into the player who showed aggression on the previous street. I am not sure if this is true, but I was told we call it like that because the player (donkey) often does not acknowledge the strength that the aggressor showed on the previous street. By doing this, he is being as stuborn as a donkey. Makes sense, no?

I also call donk bets, the river bet at the end of a wa/wb line, and a turn bet for a stop n go.

I think the term is more appropriate for limit hold'em, since in this game, value betting and keeping the lead is much more automatic. So check raising the player who showed strength on the previous street becomes a routine play as it allows to get more money in the pot.

These sorts of standard terms for common lines need to be compiled and stickied somewhere.

Stop 'n go is as described above -- it's a bet after the player bet-called the previous street. A donk bet is a bet after the player check-called the previous street. Most common situation is...

PF:
EP limper, MP limper, you raise on button, blinds fold and limpers call.

Flop:
Limpers check to the raiser (you), you bet, they call.

Turn:
EP limper now bets.

I notice many more donkbets on the turn than the river. Donkbet is also referred to as a gaybet by some people, but not as much after the PC police jumped on people for it awhile back. I find no offense at the term "gaybet," but as discussed this weekend at Vegas, actually saying that someone gaybet you when discussing a hand in person sounds pretty retarded.
