Running in Vegas (slightly OT)

I am in the middle of marathon training and have to run a 10 miler next saturday. Problem is, i will be in Vegas and dont know where i could/should do my run. As fun as running 10 miles on a treadmill at the Aladdin sounds, i think id rather run outside. Im open to any suggestions from locals.... or if anyone in Vegas is up for a long run (9 minute pace give or take) let me know.

Every time I was heading back from the Bellagio at 6am-ish or so there were quite a few runners back and forth along the strip (between the Bellagio where I was playing, and the Treasure Isl where I was staying).

Not sure if you will intend on being up at that hour.

Obviously this was kind of important for the runners in July...because running when it's ONLY in the high 80's is a lot better than when it's 110 or higher (had highs of 114-116 while i was out there).
And, of course, the people-traffic on the strip is not going to be as favorable for running in the afternoon/evening.

looks like a great place to hike but it seems like there are too many hills for me to run. im running a marathon where the course is almost perfectly flat so im not used to running in hilly areas.

Ignore the hiking trails. Run on the scenic road. I think it's like a 13 mile long loop. It's not dead flat, but it should do the trick.

hmmm... 13 mile loop that has 1000 feet of elevation change... i guess ill have to see how i feel the day of my run because those are some serious slopes for someone used to the rolling hills on NoVa....

almost every hotel has a recommended route you can get from teh concierge or it may actually be in the book in the room w the room service menu and other facts about the hotel.

the recommendation is so that people do stray into bad neighborhoods. i know the flamingo has a short 2mi route and a another about 5mi that they provide.

Cubs,

The last time I was in Vegas I also stayed at the Alladin.

I found that taking a right and running to the Stratosphere and back is almost exactly 5 miles and then keep going to the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign and head back to the hotel is another 5 miles.

Nice ten mile loop.

Run the stairs to the bridges passing over the streets and you will get in some short hills.

I run in the morning. Lot's of people and stuff to look at to take your mind off the running...people fighting, whores finishing up for the day, street cleaners.

they are having the first annual LV marathon on dec somethin - the course goes thru the strip and up and over down some local streets and back. it's pretty much flat
i've seen runners training on it - obviously it's 26 miles or so - so just run like half of it

I've run from downtown Las Vegas to the Stratosphere along Las Vegas Blvd. in the past when I've needed to run. Running on the Strip has been pretty decent in the past. I'd say do it early before the cars and crowds start up and as far north as you can is better (considering all the pedestrian overpasses you'd have to climb on the South end otherwise).
