Teaching a class- Input appreciated

All,

Over the next couple of months, I will be teaching 2 classes, Beginner and Advanced Texas Hold 'Em at a local community college in their non-credit program. The beginner class will be 90 mins for 4 sessions and the advanced class 2 hrs for 4 sessions. What topics do you think would be most important to cover for the 2 levels? The beginner class will really be an intro to poker with a Hold 'Em focus. Thanks for your thoughts!

they're really going to let you teach a class on hold'em? that's pretty cool. if i was a student i'd be all over that.

for the intro class: rules of the game, hand rankings, starting hand requirements, pot odds, position play,

advanced class: structured hand analysis, implied odds, reverse implied odds, specific moves(check-rasie, slow play, stop-n-go, post oak bluff,etc.), some tournament strategy, and some mike caro style tells

Good thoughts! Thank you... I'm going to make the 4th class a tournament to see if they've learned anything... there will be somewhere between 16 and 24 students in each class.

Post Oak Bluff
A Post Oak Bluff is a bluff from a tight player who tries to make a small bet into a big pot in hopes that the other player has zilch, and will just give up on the pot.

Post Oak Bluff= Term Mike Sexton uses on WPT broadcasts that people throw around to sound cool.

But yes, it's a small bet in NL or PL that's designed to make it look like a player is trying to induce a call from an opponent, with the hopes that he/she will fold.

I wouldn't consider these part of an intro class, but thats my opinion. The pre-existing knowledge level of the class though may change that.

You 'might' instill overuse of these more advanced plays by new players and they'll get railed and then not bother anymore.

Teach them to fold to aggression on the flop so I can win a pot occasionally with my TPTK instead of waiting for them hit their miracle card on the river.
